I just turned in my first research portfolio as a doctoral student. It’s a beautiful mess, complete with a front page typo, that you can view here.
In this semester, I tried to form a basis for future research, which involved a lot of reading about how different people define (or do not define) “information” and the role information professionals play in all things information-oriented. Which, as I not very eloquently concluded, is everything.
The things that could not be captured by the portfolio are the engaging discussions with my fellow cohort members and our professor. Every week, we spent hours pouring over our readings and topics, finding new connections and tying them to older ones. It will be exciting to see our research basis start to formulate research proposals next semester.
